RepSort Product Summary

RepSort is a utility which reads in standard Cerner reports and resorts them based on specifications provided in an external file. It allows the user to resort MRR by location and hundreds of other applications.

RepSort Product Details

RepSort is a flexible, data-driven program which reads report files and writes new reports based on action files. Action files describe the format of the input report (e.g., how the page headers look, how long records are), the manipulations to perform on the report (e.g., resorting by location), and the output specifications of the report (e.g., the outgoing page headers). This is done using a simple language based on a standard report model. In the model, a document is composed of a report header, report proper, and report footer. The report proper is composed of a series of interleaved records and separators, gathered into pages. Pages have their own headers and footers. In order to identify the records, it is only necessary to specify the number of lines of these components, to describe the first lines of the components, to describe the last lines of the components, or any combination in between. For example, the MRR has:
  1. no report header
  2. a report footer beginning with "SEQUENCE SELECTED:"
  3. a page header beginning with "REPORT NO: MB-MRR"
  4. a page header length of 7 lines
  5. no page footer
  6. records beginning with a name
  7. record length of at least 3 lines
From this information, RepSort can break an MRR report into its component pieces. Then a simple command in the action file tells RepSort to resort based on the location (e.g., row 1, cols 28-31 of every record), and other commands tell RepSort how to break the outgoing series of records into pages. RepSort also provides advanced pattern-matching functions for recognizing component transitions, and action files can easily be generated to read and manipulate almost any Cerner report.
